The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center is spearheading a series of events around town honoring the life and legacy of civil rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dr. King. The week kicks off at City Hall from 12-1:30pm with a Wreath Laying Ceremony featuring keynote speaker Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes, III, a passionate leader and social activist, along with other public officials and community leaders. This event is free to the public. Other events include workshops, interfaith prayer services, a candle lighting ceremony, museum exhibits, symphony performances, a parade, gala, symposium, and other engaging happenings, culminating on January 22nd for an observance of the National Day of Racial Healing. The MLK Community Center’s planning committee invites the community to participate in this annual memorial and celebratory series of events entitled Reconciliation: Moving the Dream Forward.
